Preparing Home for Summer Season
The sunny season is an ideal time to spend with family and friends. However, not many people prefer to spend time in their own residence since it gets stifling and humid. As a result, they tend to spend their vacation in faraway places. Luckily, there are ways in which you can keep your house cool during this hot and torrid climate.
- Placing curtains and blinds
These fabrics should be placed in rooms which are constantly exposed to sunlight late morning to early afternoon. Choose curtains with light fabrics to so that air can easily pass through and circulate the room. You should also choose curtains with colours that complement the interior design.
- Checking insulation of doors and windows
If you have glass doors and windows, it is important to open them during the hottest time of the day. Glass easily absorbs and since little air gets in, this creates a greenhouse effect. Open them at noon to allow air to circulate throughout the entire house. In addition, this also brings down the temperature.
- Inspecting dryer vents
It is natural that there are certain parts of the home which cannot be easily reached by air. As such, the purpose of vents is to make sure these areas are well-ventilated. This also brings down the temperature of the entire home.
- Switching light fixtures to compact fluorescent bulbs
There are certain bulbs which only add more heat. This is because they consume too much electricity. With compact fluorescent bulbs, not only will you have a bright room, you are also ensured that your electricity consumption is kept at a minimum.
- Cooking on times with cooler temperatures
The kitchen can be considered as one of the hottest parts of the house since you are using appliances which emit great heat. To minimise this, prepare your food during periods wherein temperatures are lower. The benefit with this is that you lower your electricity consumption.
All these are important to keep your house energy and power sufficient during the summer.
